No separating the book into three-ring binders this time! I love the introductory material with well-presented lists of ingredients and techniques.
I also appreciate the novelty of arranging the recipes by month, all for the benefit of helping readers brainstorm seasonal menus and delights for special occasions throughout the year. The index is also the best I've seen, with thumbnail photos in addition to recipe names and page numbers. I've already made the no-bake cookies and almond shortbread for the office holiday party, and they were a hit! In the refrigerator I have gingerbread cookie dough ready to roll, cut, and bake for our Christmas dinner potluck, and for Christmas morning I'll be whipping up the French Toast Casserole. No Kindle version for me. That, combined with the expense of all these specialized ingredients pretty much cements that I won't be attempting them. The attitude towards food also is a little unsettling. In the recipe for faux-apple cinnamon oatmeal, which is actually made with Zucchini, you get this gem:'This recipe resembles a high-carb baked oatmeal with apples and apple pie spice, but there are no apples and no oatmeal. THOSE THINGS WILL KILL YOU.' (Emphasis mine.) Wait, so apples and oatmeal, things that are pretty universally healthy will kill you? I understand they aren't low carb, but does that make them deadly?
Give me a break. Also, I noticed several non-recipes within this book. I'm sorry, roasted pork seasoned only with salt and pepper? Was that truly necessary? Or were you just trying to bolster your page count?
